End of year show 2013!

Studio 79 return to the Main Stage at Curve once again to present their graduate showcase 2013.
On Saturday 6th July head to Curve to check out 'AMICUS' 
This year, the studio has grown to new heights and created a dance performance that encompasses both the bond shared between the students and the strength of the work they create together. This symbiotic relationship is a reflection of the ethos that powers the college and inspires the students, giving them focus, drive and motivation, and above all, commitment.
The two hour long show includes a variety of styles including; Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Commercial, Cabaret and Musical Theatre.
Join us on Saturday 6th July for our third year at Curve as the students of the BTEC First and BTEC National Diplomas power the stage with another electrifying production that synthesises the full spectrum of performance skills they have acquired during their studies.

Audition Round 2!

Studio 79 is holding a second round of auditions for September 2013 entry to the full-time dance college!

Due to popular demand, on Friday 3rd of May we are holding another round of open auditions for applicants who wish to join our family at the studio in the new academic year of 2013/2014 on one of the following courses:

BTEC Level 2 in Performing Arts (Dance) (1 Year full-time)
BTEC Level 3 in Performing Arts (Dance) (2 Years full-time)
Higher National Diploma Level 5 in Performance (2 Years full-time)

We are looking for dedicated and passionate dancers in the Leicester area who wish to further their education and training in the performing arts field and want to stand out from the crowd.

Studio 79 works closely with industry professionals to help you gain the essential skills you need to make an impact in the dancing world. In affiliation with Regent College (BTEC) and New College Stamford (HND) Studio 79 is accredited by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and the British Dance Theatre Association (BTDA) Studio 79 strives to help you be the best dancer your dare to be.

St. Georges Day Festival 2013

Orton Square in St. Georges Cultural Quarter played host to St. Georges Day Festival 2013 in Leicester at the weekend, and the Studio 79 Saturday Community class was asked to get involved and perform two routines for the visitors to the festival.

The kids involved had a fantastic time and we can't wait to get involved again next year.

Teaching Staff at the College

College Audition - Round Two!

The auditions for the 2013 admissions to the full-time college were held at the studio last month. The day was a huge success and we found a fantastic new group of students to join the family in September and can't wait for the new year to begin!

Before the new term starts, we are excited to announce that due to an overwhelming response for the first audition, we have been allowed to open up more spaces for the BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 full-time dance courses, and are holding a SECOND round of auditions for the Sept 2013 intake in May!

This is the perfect opportunity for those who missed out or were unable to make it the last round of auditions.

Studio 79 is a Leicester based dance college, offering full-time professional dance training for 16yrs+. We work with specialist dance teachers to create unique and imaginative work, endeavouring to supply you with the highest level of training possible, helping you stand out from the crowd and become the best dancer you dare to be!

We offer a very full timetable of lessons, professional and qualified teaching faculty who know the creative business, guest choreographers for masterclasses and workshops, ISTD and BTDA syllabus work, regular performance opportunities, an end of year showcase performance at Curve and so much more!

Michael Jackson Tribute

We were approached recently by a Michael Jackson Tribute act to supply a group of strong dancers for a showcase at DeMontfort Hall. We held an audition here at the college to select a group of dancers who would accompany the 'Legend' on stage.

6 Talented dancers from the BTEC Level 3 Dance Course ran at the college were chosen for the job, and the rehearsal process began. The studio was filled with MJ dance moves and tunes for the entire week leading up to the performance, and we were loving every minute!

The show was a great success and we can't wait to see what the outcome of the showcase may hold, but whilst we uplaod the vide footage for you all to see, check out this cheeky shot backstage during rehearsals from the night!

Mass Movement 2013

We were so happy to be chosen this year to perform at Dance4's annual UDANCE platform in Leicester, 'Mass Movement'.

The students of Studio 79 performed amongst many other Leicestershire Dance Schools, Colleges and Groups, and it was a fantastic day and a sell out show over at the Peepul Centre.

We created a contemporary performance piece to James Arthur's rendition of 'Sweet Dreams' with a bit of Marilyn Manson and Beyonce thrown in between eerie Aqualung lyrics.

The performance went down a storm and we received some amazing feedback from those who came and watched.

Can't wait for next years!

Leicester's Best Dance Workshops

On Sunday 3rd March the Studio played host to 'Leicester's Best Dance Workshops', which was created on the back of 'Leicester's Best Dance Crew' in association with 2FunkyArts.

The day was an exclusive opportunity for members of the public and budding young dancers from around the county to work with choreographers from previous winning crews and other crowd favourites from the annual competition.

We were joined at the studio by choreographers from Amp3, The Rubydolls, Artistic Chaos, Base, Sublime and 2Funky stopped by to oversee the project and to take some photos of the day. A whole hoard of dancers burst through the doors at 11am ready to take part in the classes, excited to work with new choreographers and build the relationships within the Leicester dance community.

Everyone who was involved, teacher and student alike had a fantastic day at the workshops, and can;t wait for the next oppotunity to collaborate again on future dance related events within the city.

Mass Movement 2013

On Saturday 23rd February 2013 Studio79 took part in Dance 4's annual 'Mass Movement'. The event is a celebration of the local talent in Leicester and acts as a platform for all of the dance schools in the county to exhibit the work they have been producing over the previous months.

As the popularity of performing arts and dance rises in the county, so has the talent, which is why this year the event upped its status and became a competition.

Studio 79 were selected to compete on the night at The Peepul Centre, and our performance went down a storm. The atmosphere was electric all night, with the roar of the crowd growing bigger after each performance as all the talented dance schools showcased their work.

The overall winners from the competition won't be  announced until a later date, but we are so proud of all our dancers for their show stopping performance on the night and can't wait for the next opportunity to perform.

TXS win Leicester's Best Dance Crew 2013!

CONGRATULATIONS TO TXS!

Last night, Curve theatre in Leicester played host to the annual 'Leicester's Best Dance Crew' competition. The show was sold out and was one of the hottest tickets  in town last night! The winners of this years show, are one of Studio 79's resident crews, TXS! the boys bought home the Leicester's Best Dance Crew 2013 crown to the studio, making studio 79 home to the winning crews for the second year running!

Last year, 'BASE' won the title of Leicester's Best Dance Crew 2012, and have since made a name for themselves doing various shows and performances around the country and even getting a selected space on SKY1's 'Got To Dance' show.

TXS, made up of 4 teenagers from the Leicester area who train at the studio at the street dance classes on a weekly basis conquered the competition last night after coming 2nd in the competition last year. They have been working really hard in their rehearsals all week, trying to get their performance ready for the show. It was a well deserved win, getting a standing ovation from the audience after each performance on stage.

Rubydolls, the studio's other resident group made their debut in the competition, opening the show to rave reviews.

The show was created with 2 Funky Arts, who recorded the event, so hopefully we will be able to post some footage of our dancers in the near future. 2 Funky Arts are also working with the studio to host the first 'Leicester's Best Dance Workshops' event 2013 on Sunday 3rd March.

We are so proud of all the Studio 79 dancers involved in the show, and cannot wait for next years show, which will see the TXS boys returning to hand down their crown to Leicester's Best Dance crew 2014!

Workshop Event!

Newsflash: Exciting announcement and dance workshop opportunity! 

On the back of the continued success of the annual ‘Leicester’s Best Dance Crew’ competition, Studio 79 in association with 2Funky Arts are hosting an exclusive day of workshops with the choreographers of some of the crews from the competition.

The classes are being held at Studio 79 in St. Georges Cultural Quarter on Sunday 3^rdMarch from 11am-4pm in the largest studio space Leicester has to offer.

This is a fantastic opportunity for dancers of all ages (minimum 8yrs) to work with Leicester’s top choreographers who will be exclusively teaching work from their crews sets.The price of the workshops is £12 for the day – this includes a £5 deposit to secure your place on the workshops, which must be paid before February 24^th.

Leicester's Best Dance Crew

Last year at Leicester's Best Dance Crew, one of our resident dance crews, 'BASE' stole the crown and became titled 'Leicester's Best Dance Crew 2012'! This year, at LBDC 2013, BASE return to the competition to hand the crown down to the next champion, and perform to remind everyone at Curve why they won the previous year. 

This year we at Studio 79 are proud to have 3 dance crews involved in the competition - not only do we have our crew BASE returning to perform, but last years runners up TXS and new comers The Rubydolls are entering for their chance to steal the crown!

The show at Curve on Sunday February 17th has now SOLD OUT so we are more than excited for the day to arrive - the atmosphere is going to be electric! 

We hope to see you there, but if you weren't lucky enough to grab yourself a ticket, do keep your eyes peeled on the box office incase there are any ticket returns!

Audition Date #1 Sept 2013

On the back of the Open Evening we are holding at the studio on Monday 18th February, we can now announce our first audition date for Sept 2013 admissions to the Studio 79 full-time dance college.

The audition will be on Monday 11th March 2013 and spaces are filling up fast!

Should you be interested in attending this early round of auditions, we request that you complete an application form and return it back to us before Friday 8^th March 2013. Application forms are available to pick up from the Studio, or alternatively you can download one from the 'courses' page on the website. 

Should you still be unsure about attending the studio full-time, have any questions you would like answering, or would just like to talk to somebody at the college, we once again invite you to attend the Open Evening we are holding at the studio on Monday 18^th February. This is an ideal opportunity to visit the studio to see the type of work you could be creating as a student at Studio 79 and chat to other students who attend the full-time college. We would like to encourage attendees to bring a parent or guardian to the open evening so they too can gain an understanding of the course and what life is like at the college.

New Weekly Dance Classes!

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Saturday Street Dance Classes since the new year, we are excited to announce we have added some new classes to our evening timetable!

Starting from 21^st February there will be 2 new street dance classes available for 7-16 year olds on Thursday evenings. The classes will be split into two different age groups:

5pm-6pm will be for 7-11yr olds

6-7pm will be for 12-16 yr olds

The cost of each class will be £5.

Beginners welcome. This is the perfect opportunity to get that extra session of dance training in during the week - boasting the biggest studio space in Leicester, come along and bust out your street dance moves.

Base and TXS on Got To Dance

The new series of Got To Dance started this week, and incase you missed it, one of our dance crews, BASE were featured on the show!

Winners of Leicester's Best Dance Crew 2012, BASE have been going from strength to strength since they first started, and we were very proud when they achieved 3 gold stars on the SKY1 TV show.

BASE train at the studio on a weekly basis, with several members attending Studio79's full-time dance college. Members of the crew often run workshops open to members of the public, so keep your eyes peeled for postings about masterclasses and future workshops!

BASE will be returning to perform at Leicester's Best Dance Crew 2013 to hand over their crown to the new champions of Leicester.
